Hello,
I downloaded the fun file for your 3d rotation which was great. Could you tell me what program you used to create the 3D image itself?

That image is (was) Frank Hilton's artwork.
My advice is to use Adobe Photoshop 7 and to export your creation as EMF or EPS format.

Hey everyone!

Could you say how you did this (the purple 3D figure)? I tried to replicate it in order to learn action script. But I got nothing like yours. Keep in mind that I have computer experience but I am no graphics designer and most of which I know I learned from this forum.

As I said some time ago, this example is quite spectacular but not so usefull.
Why ?. Because can't render shapes (triangles) and hasn't a "SwapDepths engine".

I did something like this but the file was so large I abandoned it. You can find it at http://home.att.net/~sablelanding/virtualdrum.exe

It was done entirely from koolmoves and the sounds were from cakewalk, and sound fx. As an added note: I have examined all of necromanthus fun files and cannot understand how the maze file works. How were the walls completed? I find all of his files most useful in understanding flash creations. --To much too learn sometimes!!!---thank you for your knowledge

The "maze" is a little part from "DIABLO" engine.

Some objectives of my KoolMoves examples:

Hi Bob C.

A little help on Draw in KM:
Instead of using transparency for the shading fill
use the same color as the main fill and vary
contrast for the shading.
Possibly a more realistic look.

I was able to do a experimental scrolling menu bar at
http://home.att.net/~diversioncentral/testsitemenu2.html
(I work full time so I do not have time to be fancy)

I do not understand what this means but I know it is key on the operation and the number 4 is?
on(press){_root.page.gotoAndPlay(4);}

When I view the britneyspears menu, the menu goes reverse of the mouse. I could not get this to happen. Well I did but then the speed of the scroll was way to slow. Need to keep playing. I do not know enough to manipulate the script yet. I could not figure out how to control the speed also.

This was a great file.

1)" on(press){_root.page.gotoAndPlay(4);} "
This button set a jump to page no.4
2)"the menu goes reverse of the mouse. I could not get this to happen"
Because it wasn't my wish.Easy: just change the sign for _root._xmouse
3)"I could not figure out how to control the speed also"
Easy: change the divider (smaller one) for XS and YS

The recording was an impulse. I liked the way the bass boomed. The sound is simply a 300.00 fender guitar from mexico, plugged into a 29 dollar sound card and recorded on an old version of cakewalk. I could not tell you what key it is even in. I do have the original wave file. If you know how to make the sound better it would help me, but I do not want to buy a lot of equipment. (I do not even know how the set the levels). In Februray I plan on buying a new computer so I could start there. I would like to make loops that are not choppy and that do not take 5 minutes to load.

As for the site, I bought MX and have been learning it so I kinda have not been doing anything in Koolmoves at the moment. I will finish the link site this weekend.

When you talk about a movie library, what exactly is it you are discussing?

Is it like a component? What makes it different from a loading a swf into a clip, or inserting a fun file?

A "Movie-Library" is a powerfull feature for Flash (and difficult to implement it too).
Is like a "bag" with objects (shapes, movies, sounds, etc).
You can ATTACH (import) objects from the "bag" without increasing the SWF size !!! (impossible in KM at this time).
I need this feature BADLY !

:mrpimp:

I need this feature BADLY !

Wooo. Don't we all!

* Has visions of a 30 byte empty swf loading instantly and competing with MS/Star office in functionality * :)

Okay, without increasing swf size - there has to be a trade-off surely, somewhere or the other? The parent file size doesn't increase, but there is a hidden overhead?

Is it like a flash-type dll, or an object library?

(Sorry to bug you with all these Qs.)

NO tricks at all,it's real !
Use KM and do the following:
- create a child-movie with a lot of graphic keyframes.
- export the SWF and check the file size.
- with "copy & paste", create another child-movie.
- check the SWF size again: allmost DOUBLED !
Using a Movie-Library the size is the SAME !
This is the huge difference.
Also: you'll be able to ATTACH "invisible" Objects.
and much more ...

necromanthus
12-17-2002, 05:56 PM
I wasn't clear enough.Let's try again:

1) without Movie-Library,after "copy & paste" you'll get TWO movies
and TWO place assignments (double size for the selected object)
2) with Movie-Library,after "copy & paste" you'll get ONE movie
and TWO place assignments (the same size for the SWF).
Using KoolMoves,"copy & paste" in different keyframes generate the
same SWF size, but "copy & paste" in the same keyframe generate double
size for the selected object...and this is wrong !
The objects from the Movie-Library are exported in the SWF only if
you assign a name for the desired object. After that, you can use the
object several times (in the same keyframe or not) without increasing
the SWF size.
Also,a powerfull feature is ATTACH command:
mov.attachMovie("name","newname",depth);
snd.attachSound("name");
These commands are worthless without a Movie-Library.
a lot of things to do for BOB ...

lol. :doughnut: I think I am totally confused. I am even confused about whether I am confused .. :p

So in a sense, it makes the library movie a super-symbol, ie, it only stores the movie reference in one place in the finished swf, all in-frame instances are pointers to this - even multiple instances in one frame?

If so, the player works harder? For example, where there is, say, two instances of the movie in one frame, one "normal" and one rotated and shrunk, the player understands this, and handles the situation?

Anyhow, one thing I do know is that I am wasting your time with these Qs, seeing as it is all academic at the mo. But thanks for answering. :)

NO NO ... I was talking about the SWF file ONLY !
After the file is launched, the situation is different.
In your example (two objects, the second is rotated),in the SWF (Library featured) there's only the "content" of the first object and 2 assignments: for the "normal" one and for the second rotated.
The "real-time" process occures in your system RAM (not in the SWF).

Remus:

The Player is even nicer now, although it appears the "Balance" slider works the opposite way I would expect, i.e. moving the slider left should INCREASE the sound from the left speaker and REDUCE the sound from the right speaker. But I don't want to minimize your wonderful effort in anyway....this is a great piece of software. Did you compose the music as well?

I have been very busy lately and have not done much with KM, or any graphic software for a while, but I'm getting "itchy" - thanks for the reminder. I do have some ideas floating around.

I'm an old Amiga-Head and after many many years of false starts a new Amiga computer has finally been released and the new Amiga OS (AmigaOS4) will follow shortly in Feb. or March. Much of my "online time" recently has been spent following that story. Geees KM for the new Amiga...what a concept?

Like the new look of your site too!

Ha ha ha ... it was developed using my speakers position.
(you can interchange the variables from the "setVolume" command line.)
Amiga ?...in Europe the leader was Spectrum Sinclair.
Some new projects for this year ?

A custom preloader in KoolMoves ? Answer: YES !
This is a working preloader because there're no shapes and child-movies (?!?)
Everything is ActionScript generated !
You can modify the preloader design as you wish.
You can test it here: http://necromanthus.com/Test/prepelix.html
You can grab the FUN file from here: http://necromanthus.com/KoolMoves/preloader.html

p.s.
BOB,you owe me a buck for that !

Nice work, I'm thrilled to see that MX finally adds the line drawing commands!

But what does a user see who only has Flash 5 installed? Looks to me like he only sees a black screen...

What's generally the best way if I would like to make use of these MX AS commands, and at the same time make sure Flash 5 users get a warning that they need to upgrade?

Hi STEPHAN,
No problems at all !
All my HTML files have this "line":
codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,0,0"
In other words: FORCED upgrade in case of failure !

KoolMoves section updated.

example no.20: ActionScript
Few KM fans asked me for a "Load HTML" example.
Here's a nice one:
http://necromanthus.com/KoolMoves/loadHTML.html
(keep press on buttons and you'll see a cool feature !)

example no.21: ArtWork
ArtWork from Necromanthus ??? ... not a chance !
(he can't pass the lines & circles stage)
This FUN file is the result of a sophisticated "JPG to EPS to SWF" convertor:
