How do I save flash on webpages? I'm just learning and want to see the back end of the flash files to learn how to design mine

there are a few programs I've tried like "Flash-Saver" but when I try to open in KoolMoves (import as an object is the only way I know how so far)... it says something about unable to read header

any ideas?

is their any way to open .swf files and edit them? Is Macromedia the only program that can edit .swf files?

You have two options:
1) HTML + SWF
2) replace an image with a SWF file

Macromedia isn't able to edit SWF files !
Flash MX is able to import a SWF file as frames (with objects and images).
You can't edit a SWF file.Use a "SWF Scanner" to "see" what's inside of it.

It shouldn't be having these problems. Have you troed to play the file in a Flash Player? Perhaps QT 6 or FlashToolset???

Anyhow as necro has said even Flash can't edit a SWF. It can import shapes from the SWF and there are tools (Free and comercial) that can extract Movieclips and the scripts from the SWF.

SWFs are played in the Flash Player (Or other designated player associated with the SWF Mime Type, QT 6 can be used like this, if you are using something besides IE for PC - IE for the PC ignores the Mime type and plays the file in whatever is associated with the ClassID in the Object tag.). They are placed on the page using the Object Tag (IE fro PC) or Embedd tag (NS, IE for Mac, Opera, ECT). Using the built in Export features of KoolMoves is the best option if you are unfamilure with HTML although most Web Authoring apps now have a Built in Flash plugin object/embedd tag. The old free version of FrontPage and Frontpage prior to FP 2K would only generate HTML tags that were valid in IE PC version (The Mac version is different) to display SWFs.

From FP 2K on you have to set FP to the compatible export setting in order to get valid HTML with your SWF. As this is a pain it is best to simply create a page with a placeholder and let KoolMoves replace the placeholder.
