The best book,
Actionscript for Flash MX:, the definitive guide - second addition.
By Colin Moock

I have purchased many books from ebay. They were all brand new (except for a few) for about 10 us dollars plus shipping. This includes Actionscript for Flash MX:, the definitive guide, which bridelh recomends.

If you go to http://www.actionscript.org or http://www.kirupa.com you'll find a lot of pretty good actionscript examples and explanation, though mostly orientated to FlashMX interface, and downloadable examples in *.fla. I think that is also a minuspoint in the Moock books. Since there are more and more programs handling SWF's and actionscript a more general approach would be welcome.

Believe it or not, I'm starting to use actionscript myself.
One good place to cover the basics is...
Actionscript ToolBox (http://www.actionscript-toolbox.com)
They provide the action script code on the site.
This is better than posting a fla download, as KoolMoves
does not have the tools to open fla files.
The con side of the site is that they only handle the basics
[Well, gotta start some where].

The next version of KoolMoves to be released in several weeks will do a half decent job of extracting action script from a swf.

what does that mean?

He is talking about adding an actionscript viewer or decompiler type function to Kool Moves that will allow you to view the actionscript that has been placed within an .swf file. You can use this function to view and better understand how and where actionscript was added in a flash movie. A decompiler like Action Script Viewer "decompiles and shows all the actionscripts on frames, on buttons, in movieclips. Also shows Clip Actions, Component Parameters and on(construct) blocks.. " So I assume he means the next version of KM will now have at least some of this functionality.

OK,
Helen Triolo has created ActionScript Toolbox in a "ToolBox" manner.
All the "tools" are organized into three categories. You should find
these categories on the left side of the page. Each category has a
drop down menu. Just click on a menu item to take yourself to the
related page. Get to know everything there... If you want to dive in,
I would suggest color object under the tools menu.

Next week: Using the Browser's navigation tools. j/k

:zombie:Try teaching a four year old how to use a mouse sometime. :zombie:
That's a test of patience.

Thanks Bob!!!
That would really help.
Must be the reason why KoolMoves is called kool.
However, getting the fla file to swf format could be a bit akward.
