Hi Folks, This is probably best best suited for Necro, but I was just wondering if anyone has done any work on random or controlled sound to light effects in flash (The effects in Windows Media Player are a reasonably good example). If so, is there a tutorial that you know about or any scripts lying around that could be modified.I found an "auto sync" script for flash mx and tried that out but to be honest, it sinks more than it syncs so I sunk it.Cheers

In college I made a physical laser light dance to the output of a radio. So I believe that the upper tut can help you. The software he recomends from the tut will extract the intensity of a certain spectrum of a song. You can use that to input into a design with actionScript.
You can use random to input into a design but it would not "dance" to the music. There are tuts for this under led spectrum analyizer(?)
I might try this myself as a challenge. It seems like the window media player is the only example of this. everything else is a copy (or visa-versa):yarr:
PS I hope that this is not the tut that you said sucks.

Ermmm. Afraid it is. Thanks for the help though. There must be something around the web that deals with the subject or possibly something in Java Script that can be modified to AS. I've been trying to peek into the Media Players brain but Mr Billys boys have done too good a job of locking it down to nosey sods like me, although I suppose there must be some dll with the script that runs the effects hidden away inside the system32 folder. Take until the Year 2525 (Good song that) to find it though. I'll keep searching the web and if you or anyone else comes up with something, give me a shout. Cheers and Thanks.

Hi William,
Don't waste your time anymore searching for "ghosts".
The answer is: IMPOSSIBLE !
As I said many times before,Flash is not able to process sounds.
To get what are you looking for,two things are required:
1) to get the amplitude value of each PCM sample
2) to find the dominant frequency for each sound "slice"
All we have to do is to wait for Flash v10 (???)
Who knows ...
cheers

Since flash can dynamicly read a text file, can it not dynamicly read variables into action script? (this i do not know). As for this tut though, the sound in embeded into the swift so it is not really proceesing sound dynamicly. It also uses another piece of sofware to do the amp and frequency evaluation. As far a win media goes, I would like to see something different:)

Yep. This is the solution: another (dedicated) plugin.
Unfortunately, the FlashPlayer (a plugin itself) can't have a "brain-storm" with another (unavailable) plugin ... LOL
And now for Gusmus .... I'll try to do my best (for you).
Next month !
cheers
