Action Scripts with text files.

Hi, I am a complete novice, would someone kindly point me in the right direction to get some good plainly written instructions on action scripts. I would like to make up a simple flash site with the text and image content being controlled by a external text files and I understand action scripts would do the job. Any help or tips would be much appreciated. Thanks.
