I have to say that this is an interesting question ,,, why would you want to use html ? I dont know. Huh, now I have an urge to do it. Whenever i want something to have flash and html or css or asp or whatever i just make a dreamweaver page and mix it.

I do recall reading that Flash 8 doesn't support animated gifs. It you load an animated gif, it will only show the first frame. You could convert the animated gif into a simple swf and load that.
Rude_b0i, flash allows you to use HTML to format your text boxes inside of flash movies. Allowing you to do basic things like bold, underline, change color and insert an image. This can be very useful if you load dynamic texts, or if you want to have the abilty to allow users to add HTML tags to thier input if you have something like a flash based forum.
It's not a full blown browser, so I don't think it supports css.

you can load a .txt that content CSS and HTML format in a dynamicText.
You can find a sample source file, formattedText.fla, in the Samples folder on your hard disk, which shows you how to apply CSS formatting to text that you load into a SWF file at runtime.
In Windows, browse to boot drive\Program Files\Macromedia\Flash 8\Samples and Tutorials\Samples\ActionScript\LoadText.
On the Macintosh, browse to Macintosh HD/Applications/Macromedia Flash 8/Samples and Tutorials/Samples/ActionScript/LoadText.
And you can use CSS do display components.
So, YES CSS again will spare you time on some site.
