ermmmm - wot happened to mouseHide() in 4.9.5???? It don't work no more!!!

It seems to be working for me. Perhaps you typed it in wrong?

Have found the problem and its not in my typing - there's a new "feature"/"setting" in the options panel to allow old features to work.

mouseHide() and corresponding mouseShow() will change when Actionscript3 is fully implemented. However, to allow them to work under 4.9.5. you must have the Allow old features option clicked inthe options panel!
