how do people make background images where there is usually some kind of blurred photorealistic image and the entire image is usually shades of one color? The image usually has a touch of ambience with it also. Does someone know what i mean? How do you make an image where the colors correspond to the lighting but with only one color?
can you post an example? :)
all i can think of from you're description, is picking 2 colors you want your picture to be (usually 1 light color and 1 dark), and going to Image > Adjust > Gradient Map, and playing around w/ it from there.. you could also desaturate your image and then go to Image > Adjust > Variations, and tint it however you'd like.

what i am really specifying is similar to backgrounds (and i didn't want to mention this before cuz i hate to refer to it since people get flamed for trying to copy them) that are made by 2advanced studios. They usually have an image with a tint of a color and i've tried to do it several times with layer blends in photoshop but it never looked quite right.
make your photo black and white, go to Image > Adjust > Variations, and tint it with that, it should work..
if you need to use specific colors, use the Gradient Map thing i mentioned before.
