i know i ask lots of questions, but that ultimately means ive learned alot. :)
not trying to self-promote myself to be selected as an honorable moderator
but on the other hand, i really don't care who is a mod for the forum, i would just like to see it up. :) but thank you all for even considering opening a new forum. and promoting me :)

Heheh...just giving you a hard time, dude. :D
-
oh, i know :)
[off_topic]
remember how you helped me with those transparent cars thing a while back? well, i finally figured out how to do that. i asked my advanced photoshop teacher in college, haha.
-
Yes I do, actually...and you've been on my 'good people' list ever since. :)
-
i was sitting in class, and i starting thinking about that project... i thought... man, i bet my teacher can figure that out. about 30 seconds later, he had it and never did something like that before.

you know, thats the second time that has happened (kotex). You ever get that not so fresh feeling ....?

Well since a forum would be far off, lets say someone where to say start an OOP thread in say the application design and architecture forum. And let us further say that this thread becomes popular to the point of becoming worth of being a sticky in that forum.
Would that be a possible method of gaging the communities desire for an OOP forum?
-
Unfortunately, not entirely. What do you envision the content of this hypothetical thread as being? Are you proposing an informational thread or just a discussion about the need for an OOP forum? :)
-
ummm well. I thought the first post might be some best practices (e.g, Encapsulation, Aggregation vs. Inheritance). And if it takes off we might have a gauge of interest.
Seems this thread is already discussing the desire for it. Posting a thread in the app forum might target the audience better.
-
I'd say go for it. The popular consensus is that OOP questions should go in the Flash ActionScript forum, though. If things go well perhaps cancerinform can sticky it up for you. :)
-
I can put it in AS forum. I guess technically that would be more programming related.
-
Super. Let's see what happens. :)
-
After serious and careful consideration we've decided to hold off on creating a new forum around OOP at this time. Certainly a sticky in the AS forum related to all things OOP can be accommodated to get a better idea of the demand for such a topic.
Thanks everyone for your thoughts on this subject and especially Matt for bringing it up.
-
Just my two cents... I think an OOP forum is a GREAT idea... firstly there are not many OOP books dedicated to actionscript, secondly when doing OOP you always think 'is this the right way im doing it or is there a more OOP correct method' of doing the same thing... should I really be using inheritance here? should I really be using composition here? etc etc
cheers
-
so how do we go about getting this sticky in the AS forum?
-
It just needs to start out as a regular thread then either Planet or cancerinform can make it a sticky.
-
So who wants to kick off this OOP post in the AS forum? Was thinking of starting off with the basics from "Advanced ActionScript 3 with Design Patterns" by Joey Lott and Danny Patterson. The OOP principles would still be applicable to OOP in general even though the book is targeted at AS 3.
-
1 suggestion:
Keep the thread subject generic to OOP.
-
I almost mentioned that myself in my last post. Since for now all the info will be encapsulated in one thread, the title will want to be something that encompasses the entire subject.
-
How about:
"General Object Oriented Programming (OOP) FAQs, Resources and Best Practices"
As a topic title?
