Gif has just one transparent color, so you must export an image as gif thinking about the background stuff it will be. If you want to create a spaceship that will fly against a dark space...

This is my humble first contribution so I´m sorry if it sounds too dumb ;)

You can create your characters in separate movies and then use File>Export Movie (CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+S)....
