If you look at the updated file you will see that I have fixed many of the problems, but now have others.

I added

vel_total=Math.sqrt(vel_x*vel_x+vel_y*vel_y);
if(vel_total<100){

to my existing file, but it did nothing unfortunately. Thanks for the help just the same.
