Roll over the user's name and look at the status bar (or right click / copy url). The user id is the "u=" parameter. For example, you're user 5542 and I'm 282457.

It sounds more like programmer error than programming error. The actual interaction between client / server should be very simple. The hardest thing should be having a proper email address...
