Thanks for the info.
If I remember correctly, the term is called "Mouse Picking". A long time ago I used to work on small games in java right after I got out of college. Anyway, I was under...

I've had the same dilemma as the OP has had. My question, based on your response, is to capturing click events for things being drawn using raw bitmapData to bitmaps.
In the case of the OP, if he...

Sorry for the rushed response earlier, I meant that to be a question though, heh. Is this what you mean? Use flashdevelop to write your as3 code and simply alt+tab back into the flash IDE when you...
-
The only way I can see that working is if you are still using flash IDE to compile the project.
-
How do you import fla assets into flashdevelop?
-
Just how many possible collisions are you thinking will happen throughout your game? The number of collisions could drive what method you use to go about detecting them.

So I decided to take the advice given and look into creating my splash screen, instructions pages and some other pre game screens through CS3 IDE. I've been playing around with some different things...

I wouldn't go back to XP from vista for anything, and I use it at work with 3-4 IDE's open at a time (SQL 2005, VS 2008, VS 2005, VB6, InterDev...) without any lag whatsoever. I never understood the...

I have no idea... I'm curious though, what makes 2.swf different than other swfs that can be decompiled?
Edit: I haven't tried to decompile it yet... I don't have one but a friends company does...
-
I guess I'm missing the point then, because I have 2.swf (which has the logic) and a swf decompiler to look at it.
Doesn't that give me everything I need to steal your code?
-
I'll have to wait until later to decompile it. I did run 2.swf by itself and saw nothing, but I assumed that was because it doesn't know how to start itself, 1.swf does.
If I ran 1.swf in the...

Yes, here are both swf files.

I don't have a decompiler here, but I would venture to say having both of these files is all I need... Is that...

I have CS3, I just don't like using it... mostly because I never spent the time to learn using it but also because I (probably wrongfully) have a feeling of more control through 100% code.
I...

I'm starting to look into simplifying the process of creating menu screens and UI elements during gameplay.
I'm still relatively new to flash, so if what I'm doing is completely backwards please...

That's the best outlook to have. IMO, It's far more important to have a high understanding of development concepts rather than a specific languages implementation of those concepts.

Can someone explain what the |= operator does or link me to a page with a description?
Thanks!
-
Are you able to share the answer to the problem?
It would be appreciated :D
EDIT: Also, do you have multiple heights in your isometric implementation?
-
Any plans to make this multi-player?

Very cool function, what do you mean by iterations though? Does 1 iteration = 1 call to the function you wrote sorting 80 display objects?
-
I don't want to argue with you and I apologize if I have offended you.
Which are you talking about? I don't have experience with too many others.

The difficulty of change is more than just a technical know-how.
That said, with all of the experience you said you have, it should make sense to you why as3 runs faster than as2. It's not just...

To each his own :)
I definitely understand the difficulty of change.

It's not about speed of writing code and getting something done, it's about everything else it gives you. Code reuse, code maintainability, readability by yourself and others, extensibility,...

Just wanted to post two Silverlight game programming blogs that may interest some folks here. The second one is relatively new, but it's a comprehensive blog about creating a multiplayer online game...
