I thought attributes loaded quicker, but I just put it down to my imagination. If you think about it, each node is a new XML object, which means that there is a lot more objects created.
Also I find that attributes are easier to code for in a lot of cases. I use nodes where I need the data repeated any number of times, and I use attributes when there is only one possible value.
