According to opensource.org's definition of Open Source, derived works are entirely moral. But your should read on to point 4.

Anyway, besides all that it's just common decency to give credit to the original Author regardless of how little or much you modify.

4 years ago i was in university (INSAT)(3rd year) and we have to make a mini project we choose me and my collegue mehdi "games by flashacman" we begin our search and work for 2 mounths then we find a copy that DON'T WORK this copy was the copy of pastore you take some idea from his work and we have the time ( the project is 4 mounths) so you perform what hi wrote and we send it here
if pastroe have the good copy why he send it here in 2002-05-21 and we send our copy in 2001-01-29
and i say that those 2 copy still have many problem and we have another copy more performed
why i'm here know and not 3 years ago i was studying i finish this year and i'm working with mx 2004 so i make a look to forums and i found what you say about us 3 years ago

If this was for studying, then you shouldn't have used his open source, you should have written your own code if that was intended to.

No matter how big or small the open source is, you have to include the author in the credits at least!
