OK...this one is really confusing me... in the Ray Text Effect ( http://www.flashkit.com/movies/Text_...51/index.shtml )the actionscript makes several referenced to Go to and Stop (../:n) or Go to and Stop (../..:n). How exactly does this work? I see a counter which uses n for the variable so I assume that the n refers to a frame number in the movie clip. So I guess my real question is - What are the "../"'s?

the two dots indicates one level 'shallower' than the movie clip it is being called from.
In your case, 'n' is a variable that resides in a movieclip 'shallower' than itself.
e.g.
Main timeline > Movieclip 1 > Movieclip 2
In Movieclip 1 you could have:
Set Variable: "n" = "10"
And in Movieclip 2 you have:
Go to and Stop ("../:n")
Which would make Movieclip 2 go to frame 10.
