When I go to save a graphic (that I want the transparency to be dynamic) in Photoshop 6 as a png it doesn't save the alpha channel for me. Is there something I am not checking or doing wrong. I thought when you save a graphic as a png you end up with one layer and one alpha channel, I end up with one layer and 4 channels... rgb r, g, b. No alpha channel to get the transparency effect I am looking for.
    Please Help!!!

    Thanks In Advance

    Stephanie

I am doing that but I still lose the alpha channel...
this is the effect I am trying to recreate...

The tut talks about an alpha channel (now I know they
are using photoshop 5.5) in ps 6 when I web save the
graphic I don't get an alpha channel when I go back into
the graphic. Is this something I need to load on my own?
Am I going in the wrong direction completely?
    Help!!!

    Thanks
    Stephanie

Make sure that your graphic is transparent in photoshop as well. Transparent areas are shown as gray and white checkerboard.

Yep I have everything transparent like it should be. My not being able to do this simple thing is becoming personal now. Thanks for your help I just can't figure out what I am doing wrong.
The background does show up transparent but the actual graphic itself does not have the subtle transparency I was looking to get with this technique.

Once again thanks, and I clicked on the link above your footer; I really liked the wall paper you did. Very cool!!!!

    Sorry I couldn't help.

Is it actually transparent but when you put it into your website it doesn't look right?

When is it that you are having problems??

It is when I import it into flash that I only see the background transparency. I may have to play around with the greys in the alpha channel before I save it to get the effect I want. Or I can just change the damn alpha in flash and be done with it. Well since you will be away for acouple days
have fun where ever you are going and nice rose manipulation.

Thanks to everyone who tried to help. I ended up reloading ps 5.5 on my machine and it worked fine. I will have to check out the patch (6.0.1) at the adobe site.
Maybe this was something that needed to be fixed within the upgrade.
    Thanks again.

    (I think this is right)

The 6.01 patch is for owners of PS 6 only. I wouldn't upgrade unless you have extra cash to burn. 5.5 is good enough for now.

I have PS 6 so that isn't a problem, but I was reading some of the things it fixes and it doesn't seem like what I need is there. For now I guess I will have to use both 5.5 and 6.
