    IE5.0 and POST bug?

    Hi Macintoshers ,
is there anybody who encountered problems on Mac InternetExplorer5.0 using the "Load Variables" command with method POST ?
Once I didn´t get Jeroen Kessels FlashDB ( http://www.kessels.com/flashDB ) to work with using POST (with GET it worked fine),
    and now I have a similar problem with Kaptain Kory´s ScoreKeeper ( http://www.k2w.f2s.com/software/ )

The prob with ScoreKeeper appears when I call the perlscript twice within a short time. The first "loadVariables" works, but the second one not!
This prob only appears when using POST on IE5, with GET its ok, also ok on Navigator with POST or GET.

    Any help / comment appreciated.

that's the problem with ie 5.0 and the flash player. it was designed so poorly. i've run into circumstances where i go to a site and i can't see it on ie 5 but i check it out on ns 4.7 and it works fine. just issues with the player for ie i think.

as for you particular problem i haven't dealt with it. i'm going to ask around for you though. i'll check back.

    loadVarsTips

    Hi,

I've been doing alot of flash database interactive stuff recently and i use a mac so all stuff should be mac ie5 and ns4.7 complient and here are a few tips...

    1. loaded variables can't always be used in the same frame they are loaded in so do a little looping frame to check if they are loaded before evaluating

    2. all loaded vars need to be url encoded

    3. when evaluating number variables in flash either evaluate them as a string or convert to them to an ascii number, i don't know why but this fixes the evaluation on macs.

    4. remember unless the target is defined loaded variables go to the timelime that calls them. if your not sure if they are going to your target use a dynamic textbox to display the results.

    5. we use php and mySQL as the data source and it works on all recent browsers and platforms

    6. remember if your movie is receiving the number variables in the right place but not evaluating them correctly convert them to ascii and evaluate then as ascii it's the only way i've found to guarantee compatibility.

    7. We also discovered by looking at the unix web logs that flash sometimes uses GET even when POST is specified. If you print the variables sent to the server you can see, i seem to remember fixing this by making all variables pass through the root of the flash movie into text boxes before moving them within the movie (using eval)

one of my database example at:
    http://www.toshiba.co.uk/eid
look at the RESELLER LOCATOR link it loads all data from a database so never needs updating and works on all platforms including macs and unix

PS how long does one remain a 'New Member' for?

    Thanks for reply.
I´ll do some more testing when I´ve got time left, and maybe I´ll put some testfiles online.
    I´ll let you know.

    OK folks,
I had some time to make some testings.
I have put a test swf online. It´s here:
    http://www.neuemedienkunst.de/test/sk_test.html
You can reproduce the error with it(I hope so). Further information is in the swf.

Here´s an output of my access-log and error-log:

    In my access logfile:
    MY IP - - [29/Apr/2001:15:01:21 +0200] "POST /urlto/test.pl HTTP/1.1" 200 189 "http://www.neuemedienkunst.de/test/sk_test.html" "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.0; Mac_PowerPC)" (the first call, is OK)
    MY IP - - [29/Apr/2001:15:01:36 +0200] "" 501 - "-" "-" (the second call, what does it mean?)

    In my error logfile:
[Sun Apr 29 15:01:36 2001] [error] [client My IP] Invalid method in request (the error produced by second call)

    Any idea?
    How about this:
