Are you starting up from the CD? If so, don't. Just insert it while running OS 9.1 and click the installer. It will restart your computer for you and take it from there.

Also, you installed OS 9.1 first, right? This may sound like a dumb question but I've met many a person who's tried this.

Two bits of advice: partition your drive into two disks, one running OS 9.1 and one running OS X. Works best like this. Also, make sure you get all the softwarre updates when you get done.

    Rock on.

I try both ways rebooting while pressing c or clicking the installer....

the installer tells me the cd could not be selected as a boot device error (-2) ????

and botting while pressing c ignores the cd and boots into 9.1...

    im upset

    Smile OS X

You can't boot from the CD.

    Start up in OS 9.1.

    Insert the OS X CD.

Then click the "Install Mac OS X" icon.

Let me know if it doesn't work.

nope, when i double click "INstall Mac OS X"
and then click the "Restart" button i get this error....

"Startup disk was unable to select the INstall CD as the startup (-2)"

I have the cd in there dammit! :P

whats weird to is that if i do to the control panel to select the cd as the startup its greyed out

    System specs:
    G4 500
    OS 9.1
    384 ram
