    Is it possible to import library items from a secondary Flash file?

    If you mean from one fla to another, just have both open drag items from the library of one to the library of the other.
    If you mean from a swf, you may import a swf to your movie (file/import) you will only get maintimeline objects and no actionscript. No mc's.
    Some software is available to help you extract items from a swf, of course if its not yours you shouldnt be doing it.

    under the file menu,
    there is a command , open as shared library, and choose the movie that has the items that you want., as long as you have the original flash file that you want to extract from
