    1. Is it possible to have a colored symbol or jpg and have it appear as a grey scale image? Similar to changing tints, I am trying to have an image appear as grey scale and animate to full color. (I have an idea for a work around but it involves using two different symbols and thus doubles the movie size.) Any suggestions?

Thanks for your time and any suggestions you might have.

First, put the symbol that you want to change in the first and final frame of the clip (if you want it to take 20 frames to change color, 1 symbol in fr1, and 1 in fr20). Then, change the tint of the first image (Select the image and right-click [control-click macintosh]) and select properties. Go to the color tab, and select special. then change the sliders until you get to the color that you want. Next, change the tweening to shpe, and you are set.

Thanks for your help. Unfortuneatly I have tried this already and am unable to make the color artwork symbol look black and white/grey scale. Either everything goes completely white or black...or tints with a color.

Try setting the RGB values to -100 each (red=-100...). This should take away any color that is there. Also, if the file size is small (<10 kb, then doublong it should not be too big of a problem).
