CONVERTING A PIC TO PATHS IN ANY PROGRAM

i have some pictures of simple 3d objects i created in swift3d, does Freehand 10 or Illustrator 9 convert pictures to paths.......

or would i have to pen them in and do it that way...which i hope there would be short cut to that...

i would even like them to Trace bitmap as FLASH does...

So if any knows of a techinique they use they wouldnt mind sharing...i'd the the first to be in line and VERY GRATEFUL!
