these are the top 10 experimental flash site that I think is
    1) original and unique
    2) inspirational
    3) visually impressive
    4) technically impressive

nothing against great experimental sites like http://www.systern.com, http://www.philterdesign.com/, but how many times do we have to see an experiment based on the nav from http://www.relevare.com ?

with that said, i think the experiments in the below 10 sites are original and unique, very inspirational (at least to ppl like me), visually and oh yea.. definitely technically impressive.

here you go. i would really like to see someone posts some of other experimental sites, i think i'm a experimental site FREAK!

    in no particular order:

    1) http://www.yugop.com/
ever since i started playing with flash, that was back in flash 4, i have always looked up and admire Mr. Nakamura. i believe he's truly the master of flash, the yugop-style menu is everywhere on the web !!

    2) http://www.praystation.com , http://www.once-upon-a-forest.com
i grouped these 2 together because they are both by mr. joshua davis. Another flash master with very origianl and unique experiments. I check both of his sites regularly just to see what crazy (awesome) sh$$t he comes up with !

    3) http://www.natzke.com
i think he's probably the master of image exploration using flash (really personal opinion). seriously, some of the experiments that i've seen are just out of this world, very heavy in actionscripts but yet so fluid ! i think his design is so well recognized that by now, if you see a site in the web, you can tell right away it's made by Mr. Eric Natzke.

    4) http://www.deconcept.com
well.. another old timer flash experimental sites that I go VERY regularly. his famouse click 3 points experiments and all those organic creature experiments are definitely one of a kind. and the fact that he's only 23, makes me so ashamed of myself
oh and the spider.. when i first saw that.. my jaw must have dropped like 10 feet!

    5) http://www.kazsh.com/
flash Effect.. very very simple design (or non-design??) but if you see his experiments, then you'll know Mr. Kazutoshi Shirai is not only very creative, but very VERY skilled at actionscripting. till today, i still haven't figured out how he did A LOT of his experiments.

    6) http://lo9ic.com/
well. every experiment source code is downloadable, then you can see for yourself how good his experiments really are. impressive and smooth 3D experiments as well as very cool image explorations.

    7) http://nooflat.com
the design can't get any simpler than that, but yet very fluid and impressive. very organic experiments and definitely jaw-dropping !

    8) http://www.r-a-n-d-o-m.com/
his hydro experiments definitely earn him a lot of praises and award, including the Macromedia Site of the week, although personally i think the nav could be a little better, but nevertheless, one of my favorites!

    9) http://195.224.170.14/alien/launch.html
A01.. his experiments are hmm.. very different in style than the rest, but yet very very impressive. his approach to 3D in flash is very refreshing to me. too bad it doesn't get updated often.

    10) http://www.flashplayground.com
hmm. one of the latest experimental site that I've discovered. I've been following it often since v2, and was very impressed by the nav, and some of his experiments. but i think i really becamse a fan since version 3 launched. the new site design is totally 180 of the old one, and i think it's one of the most refreshing sites i've seen. i check it very regularly since it seems to get updated like almost EVERYDAY. most of his v3 experiments are image exploration and are definitely eye-popping and refreshing. oh yea. open source. always a great thing

    others:

these are my other favorites, but i guess they didn't make it into top 10 because either they don't update often, or may be it's just me !

    http://www.megatight.com TIGHT!
    http://www.voxangelica.com BEAUTIFUL!
http://www.threecolor.com definitely checked out his GRADIENTORS
http://www.substring.net a very interesting project going on. hope he creates more experiments
http://ichirou.org/ another pretty cool sites. some very original experiments, but a lot of them, i've seen it somewhere else
http://www.uncontrol.com/ i think the nav threw me off, but definitely some good interesting experiments.

    that's all from me.

nothing against great experimental sites like http://www.systern.com, http://www.philterdesign.com/, but how many times do we have to see an experiment based on the nav from http://www.relevare.com ?
The nav based on relevare's nav was obviously not intended to be an original experiment...just wanted to see how difficult it would be to pull something like that off.

Just because something is emulated, why does that make the person who emulates any 'less' of a designer (especially when it's obviously not meant to be original). If you take a look at some of the other stuff there, you'll probably see some that's original, and some that's not. Everyone's doing 3D scripting these days...does that mean everyone except the first person to do it is ripping it off...or are they just making things to further their knowledge and understanding?

    Philter,
i apologize if what i wrote offended you. This list is definitely just my humble opinion, and I didn't mention once that "make the person who emulates any 'less' of a designer".

I do agree that some of the stuffs on the sites that i mentioned are not original, and I'm not accusing anyone is ripping off anyone, and I do agree with you that we are all trying to further our knowledge and understanding and that's why we recreate stuffs that we've seen on the web.

Again, this post is just my opinion, you do not have to agree with it but I never mean to talk down on sites like your site or systern.com. In fact, many times i have look to yours and systern.com for inspirtation

thx eyenovation. i'm not sure if i'd consider those as "experimental sites" though. They don't really have experiments?

or am i defining experimental sites wrongly?

i though soundofdesign.com was great, especiallly the navigation. I guess thehorusproject.com could be considered a an experimental site because its a project=). (sarcasm) We'll just sit down, drink beer and talk about it. cheers...

Where is Mr James Paterson ??

You can't build a top ten list without http://www.presstube.com/

His works are definitely the most uncommon , and maybe the most artistic.
I'm not sure about this, but I personally see him as the picasso of interactive art. Young at the moment, with a lot of ideas, wait two years and watch him.

Maybe Flashkit should get a "Interactive Art Board" ?
Not sure, not been here for some months.

presstube.com definitely is different and unique.

i think out of all these experimental sites, these are my favorites experiments/ toys

    liquid,liquid from http://www.pixelbreaker.com

    the classic spider from http://www.deconcept.com

    project craig from http://www.natzke.com

    that one experiment from http://www.insertsilence.com

    eyes from http://www.flashplayground.com

    #27 from http://www.lo9ic.com

    gather from http://www.kazsh.com

the 3d building one from A01

and it's just too hard to pick one favorite from yugop.com, praystation.com, or once-upon-a-forest.com

    what do you guys think?
