When I download a sample file from the gallery, the zip file contains a .swf file and a .fla file.
Why can I not open the .fla file to view code? Or should I be able to?

This may sound stupid, but do you have Flash?

The .swf will open and play for you, just like it would if it was part of a site, but you need the Flash application to open the .fla. Considering you didn't mention any error messages or details, that's my best guess.

If you're talking about the example on the main Flashkit page, the .fla is corrupt. Many people on the help forums have asked about this already. I don't know where the problem lies (with FK, or the developer), but that file can't open.
