Thread: Ever seen two sites that look so similar it makes you laugh?

Ever looked at 2 sites so similar it made you laugh? *Update* The other site is down

    First look at this site
    http://www.cihost.com

Now look at this "Original" site of their own

    http://www.dyla.com

Now a quote from their site

"it takes experience and skill to create a site that enhances a company's image and promotes high volume traffic"

Since when did copy past take experience and/or skill?

I got a good kick out of this today, even Emailed CIhost with the address.

After a friend of mine talked to one of CIhost's lawyers and they laughed at it. notice http://www.dyla.com no longer has the layout. =)

Wow, a comparison like this that's not 2Advanced for a change. Can you get more obvious? I'd really like to konw the story behind their identical nature.

Because I just got a reply from dyla.com, here is what they said.

"We had the same designer create it for us, and that designer based it on a
    template. There are about
50 to 60 sites out there that resemble this design. Designing from a
template saves a lot of money,
a custom original site can cost upwards of $15,000."

Besides that, CIhost is the 3rd largest hosting company in the world with over 100k clients. That would be insane for them to copy/paste someone elses site. That would be like Dell copying someones site strait up and no one saying anything.

Also, why does a design studio higher another designer to do their site with completely unoriginal work? That sounds strange. I know I make my own sites.

I think the fact that templates exist, and the chance for sites to look similiar through the use of a template is terrible.

True. Then again i remeber erain's site was from freewebtemplates.com. Today they seem to have uploaded their new site and must say is impressive.

"Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery"?

I think they are just too lazy to come up with something of their own. Go figure. Templates are good for new folks who are doing it one time themselves. Keeps them in line. Leave the imagination to the designers and the great things that come from them.

I love it when my clients "try to do it themselves". They find out how hard it really is and come running for me to "fix" it.

As MG33 knows, I just had this happen to me... my own site has been copied

    Here's my site:
    http://www.dreamincode.net

    Here's the copy:
    http://www.perceptnetworks.net

My site is of course the original being designed about 4 months ago and being put online last friday... if you know much about my site, it's been up for 6 months now, has over 330 members, 4444 posts, and a ton of other stuff.... the design is orignal, designed in photoshop, cut up and put into dreamweaver

    Opinions?

No way! that site is a complete rip off, an exact copy no questions about it. That really sucks.
I bet you hit the roof when you saw that. Even the gifs are the same file names

Sheesh, How do people live with themselves doing that?

Actually, I'm kind of flattered, the members are mad cause they realize how much time and effort goes into a site like mine, but it's like 2Advanced, I'm honored to have my site copied, do the Models ***** when people copy what they wear?

I just want credit, you know, don't rip the tag off the shirt, leave me a little credit when you copy my stuff

I'm guessing we'll see a new site on there in a day or 2, just a matter of time

I can't stop every person the copies my site, it's all good, just like it was said earlier:

"Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery"?

I think this is true, and if you do something dishonest, it will bite you in the ass eventually

when i posred my site on this forum a couple of people emailed me and said that it looked to much like
