Hey guys..
What would you do if an overseas client, requested freelance work (flash) then screwed you around. here is the order
1.Requested 2 concept sites...
2.Agreed to one of the concepts...
3.Paid for 50% up front (for the concept sites only, $200.00)...
4.Sent us 10 mb of information about them...
5.We went ahead and did 50% of the work...
6.After 2 weeks of non-comunication,(on their part) they decided to go a different direction.
7.They then agreed to pay us what was "FAIR" for the work we had already done.
Isnt the 34 hour we put into it "FAIR", they did agree on the concept site after all.
After giving them a final bill of $680.00..which is qiute minute...they called us ridiculous and ceased communication.
Any Ideas...on what we can do
Thanks
Aron

Unless you had a written contract with them there is little or nothing you can do, sorry, but thats the grim reality of it, perhaps if you go back to them with a smaller bill they may pay up.
best of luck.

Heaven is made of 1's and 0's
That sucks, mate. Perhaps you could try to break it down and explain EXACTLY what the charges are for?

We had no contract, but we had a verbal agreement and an endless trail of email to support our claim.
I am not so much worried about the money, I just want to somehow put a black mark on their credit report, so they dont try to this again.
Thanks guys,
Aron

Without a contract, your options are pretty much not there. But if you did have a contract, you could do some serious damage. Anything you try to do now would be extremely ineffective since its your word against theirs.

Aron, what is fair about 20 bucks per hour? You're using expensive equipment, bring in years of experience...my tennis instructor gets $50/hour and all he needs is a racket. Although it's made from titanium ;-).
But he's worth it. So are you.

UPDATE!
Hi Ingozingo,
Thanks for the support, but keep in mind that $20 US is about $31.50 Canadian...and they did promise us more work.
After mentioning a collection agency, they have agreed to send us $300.00 (roughly half) of what we asked for.
We get to keep the fla's and use them elswhere.
This was a good lesson, from now on we will require a signed contract with a contingency for cancellaton clause.
Thanks again everyone.

Everyone promises more work..it's practically the industry standard cry from clients.
They fooled you once..shame on them.
If they get you again (any client), shame on you..
A contract takes just a few minutes..for peace of mind in situations like this..
We've been there.
