Can anyone tell me the software required to do backgrounds like this:

Also could anyone describe the design process to create these type of backgrounds.

Adobe Photoshop / Adobe Illustrator

Thanks Eyenovation for your reponse. So for that type of design I would need to use both ps & ai? Are there any tutorials on this matter?

buy adobe photoshop and illustrator classroom in a book (seperate books). that's what got me started. oh and patience helps too, i know people who try to learn from books but end up giving up.
