Im seriously getting into the scripting side of flash, but want a good.. no great recommendation for a book. I don't want just the good pictures and easy to copy codes, but something that will TEACH me about actionscripting so that i can design my own unique ideas. Help much appreciated!

actionscript the definitive guide by colin moock.
700 pages of exactly what it says 'on the tin': ACTIONSCRIPT
this book does not have a pretty cover, lovely colour photos or a fancy CD, but it sure does kick ass when it comes to actionscripting, it starts off with the absolute basics and gradually indtroduces advanced topics.
the book covers all theres to know about it in plain english, with good examples throughout the book - it shows excellent practical uses of actionscript.
theres also a 200+ page action script reference that details each and every individual command function etc. in depth. visit http://www.moock.org/asdg/home.html and check it out get a brief idea of the quality of writing by its author.
this truly is the best piece of writing on actionscripting. I got mine for only £23 from http://www.megabytebooks.com you want to to learn actionscript with minimal fuss? this is the title for you!

Thanx!!
Wow.. thanx for the great tip. I'll be sure to check it out!

Do so, it is THE best in this respect!
Before I got the book, I had been trying for a whole week to get a button in a clip to jump my main timeline to another scene, and then I started reading the book, and there it is: it's simply NOT POSSIBLE!
Had I had the book sooner, I'd not have wasted a whole week on that..buy it!
(The Author even answers mails!)

Hi...I would have to say ActionScript: The Definitive Guide, also. I use it daily...
eyezberg, you must have misread something
Put a frameLabel on the frame in your Scene that you're trying to go to and then on your button in your mc put...
on (release) {
_root.gotoAndStop("label");
}
Hope this helps...

hi pigghost
don't you think we should REALLY start thinking about doing a tutorial 'jump to scene from button in MC'?
appart from that, yes , Colin's the best!

LOL...seriously g, I have thought about it ...at least one I could link to in my footer...I just haven't taken the time to write one yet...but hey if you get to it before me, I would definitely link to it....
By the way, did you get your hitTest thing working??...I forgot to check back....I was going in five different directions that day

lol, i didn't say strat to 'write' i just said start to 'think about it'
Yes i got the hitTest working. I split both actions: the movement by keystroke on an onClip event and the hitTest in a function.
