I am trying to create a nice flash movie, it has a picture of the front of a pub in it in line form http://www.globalinferno.co.uk/Pictures/Atwell.jpg and what i want to do is a laser engrave it on to the white background... Has ANYONE got any ideas? or could you show me how to do it with an example? That picture above is the one i need to use and on a white background and it needs to be engraved on in a Up-Down, Up-Down Shape.. and then it needs to appear!?

PLEASE HELP I AM SOOOOO STUCK... i ahve tried LOADS of things but probably in the wrong ways... Nothing seems to work.. Im losing my faith in Flash!

    Lightbulb something to try

If I understand you correctly, you want the appearance that a laser animation is engraving the pub graphic on the screen.

To accomplish this you would need to make a movie clip of the laser graphic blasting away. You can then attach this movie clip to a guide path to give it the up-down motion you are looking for. Make sure to put the laser and guide path on levels above your pub graphic.

When the laser reaches the end of the guide path, you can simply add the pub graphic in the very next frame. Or, a slightly more elegant approach might be to tween the alpha on the pub from 0 to 100 % while the laser moves back and forth so the pub graphic appears gradually.

Just a couple of thoughts on how one might accomplish this. Good luck!

Well sounds good but is there anyway i can make the image appear gradually from right to left or the other way round.. So the image is completly alpha then it becomes less FROM THE RIGHT/LEFT???

P.S. Cheers for the help! Much appreciated!

The easiest way to do that would be to split your pub graphic into vertical strips or individual graphics. That way you can have each area of the pub graphic fade in using the alpha tween to correspond to the progress of the laser. This will probably take a lot of trial and error on your part to get them to match up just right.

    Good luck!

Gradual Visibilty from left to right :)

    Hi !
I think you can solve this using a mask on the layer above your image.
Or u can make an object of similar color to your movie background having a gradient which starts of from 0% alpha
    Lemme know if that helps.

    exactly

You're right Sam. The example I worked up for him used a motion guide layer for the rendering laser graphic and a masked layer below it that reveals the picture. It looked better than the alpha tween I was talking about originally.
