Is it an ionic bond or covalent bond?
I'm in chem and wasn't paying much attention while we did our lab so now I need to write an essay about the lab and have got half of it done (intro and first body) but now i need the scientific explanation.
We used sodium hydroxide, zinc, pennies, and a bunsen burner to make brass pennies.
Any help?

I know this but I'm going to have to find my old Science notes from high school. I would have studied this during my final year so it won't be to hard to find those notes!

beyond the fact that they are on the opposite spectrum - zinc negative charged, copper positive - I honestly thought it was a Dative bond... I could be totally wrong. been some years since college.

it probably is ionic, but ionic is normally nonmetal-metal, not metal-metal.

Glad to help...did it over IM cuz it's probably alot faster than sittign for the boards to load.

That's good! Just found my notes and didn't find the answer to your question. Anyway it did say Brass is made up of 65% Copper & 35% Zinc. That's my science lesson for the day!
