we are developing an application where alot of the content is Macromedia Flash animation. The backgrounds of the scenes are static, but are quite complex.
The question I have is whether using large shapes with 50% alpha values in the background is going to significantly slow down the rendering, or whether the fact that some images are semi-transparant is irrelevant.
I don't know the Flash file format so I'm looking for help ere...
Rendering speed is critical to us cos the animations will be nearly full screen.
Thanks alot

As of Flash4 player, having an alpha transparent item in the background, even if static, severely slowed down frame rates.
I'm not sure if Flash5 player has been optimized for this.
