can a mask be a MC and still take commands ??

I want to refer to the masks' _y property and _height property, but keep getting NUTHIN' ??

it works just fine on everything else (. . .shrugging. . .)

are there any rules pertaining to masks as mc's ??

any good tutorials, or known book chapters, or Im i just missing something ??

Sorry, no, you can't mask with a movieclip.

What you can do, however, is make a clip that contains a mask, and the stuff you want to mask; move the clip to move the mask, and move the contents counter to it.

It's a pain in the ass, but it does work. Look in the tutorials here on Flashkit; I believe the example was of a magnifying glass effect, and will need to be searched for as such.
