need help playing MC in another frame via ..javascript?

Okay, I don't have any scripting started yet, and I am not much of a programmer, but I would like to know if one can control a Flash movie from a different frameset.

example: (uses Flash 4)

mainFrame - contains flash expanding menu (swf), which loads additional movies (swf) for the expanding effect (not MCs inside the same swf).

navFrame - HTML all the way, buttons are simple gifs.

Need - press button in navFrame to A)Load mainFrame swf and B) activate proper additional menu swf.

Is that possible?? should I go about it a different way?
(like make a simulated pre-expanded menu in plain HTML)

== client wanted "cool flash menu" and html buttons/framesets like that.

sorry, forgot to add that the problem areas are Patient Care and Clinical Team, as they are repeated in both the swf and the HTML menus.
