I found the following information from the link below
(what a great page of info too!)
    http://www.moock.org/webdesign/flash/productiontips/

import all sounds and images as high quality originals: 44hz/16bit wavs, full res bitmaps. flash will do the compression on export and you don't want to compress twice or you'll end up with lower quality output that is the same size as it would have been if you had started with high quality originals.

Has anyone had success with the publish settings in Flash with regards to the jpeg quality setting tab??
I quickly made two fla's both with the same jpeg. however I had one publish setting of jpeg quality set to 100 and the other set to 0 yet both swf's were the same size!

    Any thoughts?

    resolved That does seem strange...

I did a publish last night and set my JPG quality from 90% to 50%. My SWF went from 230K to 157K, so it did something. Not a noticable change in the quality of the images either...
