Hi,
I'm new to Flash and need some recommendations on how to edit a 7+ minute MP3 down to a more resonable 30 sec. loop. Any help or ideas very much appreciated. Thanks!

It is a song which I do intend to license properly with the artist but first I have to figure out how to use it without my file becoming absolutely huge!

You need to convert it to a wav first and then edit it in a wav editing program. There are even some sound editing apps that will open mp3 files, let you edit them and then save them back as wavs. Sound Forge by Sonic Foundry does this. Once in the editing program, the posibilities are endless. You can make near perfect loops, stretch the audio to make it last longer, etc, etc, etc. Good luck.

You could get that and chop up the song
in to short presentation pieces.
