  1. #1

    Question

i am making a site that is going to be no good to anyone without flash .. at present the only way i can see to get people to download the player is by sending them to the macromedia site .. is there another way for them to download it directly without leaving my site ?

    thanks in advance

you cant force anyone to download anything (part of this fail safe is due to virii on the net). however, if you do not have flash plugins at all in your browser, ie will tell you that you do not have them and give you the option of downloading it that way. i know it will do it in ver 3, 4, & 5. on one my NT machines, i had problems getting it to work properly. however, i just now tested it with my other NT machine with ie 3 installed and it worked just fine. not sure if this detects flash player vers or not.

i dont know what to say about netscape users though :-(

right .. i get all that but how does it allow you to install it if you don`t have any plugins for flash .. does it take you to the macromedia site or does it just start downloading ?

    cheers again ..

it just downloads and installs automatically. stays right on your page. however, i believe there is a way to perma disable it by checkmarking "never install any of these components" :-(. i had to do that on this machine when it was running NT (now running win2k).

as i said, though, this only works for ie. i dont know what netscape does (im pretty sure its one of their default plugins that get installed). and atleast half the people out there viewing webpages are using netscape.
