Very interesting, I really like the colors. Looks like some of the green areas could use a little blurring to smooth them out, some are a bit grainy, look like the sharpen tool was used a bit too much.
Nice going, have any others?

hey thanks mg, guess what you mean by grainy is
caused by the low JPEG-compression I've used.
Gotta keep the filesize down.
What do you think about slicing splashpages?
And no other works of me are up. Some similar stuff
at http://www.pixelfront.tk , but like I said, my first
attempt to splash.
cheers

Sense, I like your splash page too and agree with the sharpening issue. It appears that you only have one image there and the file size is roughly 60k right? If that it is all that will be on this splash page, you might be able to afford increasing the files size a bit.

hmm, this is strange. I haven't used unsharp mask or
anything to sharpen the pic. Guess it'll be due to the
bad quality of the import JPEG.
by the way, opengeo. underneath the pic there is a
abstract 3D texture. That's what keeping the filesize
high.
tnx.

Ah, that would do it...

Slices: So, you'd cut it up into slices, so that several parts of the image would load, instead of the entire image at once...Guess what, you're still loading the same file size amount.

I see that too. but if sliced you get to see parts of the image
after a few seconds. as for now it may take up to 10 sec. before
you even see anything.
But for some reason I don't like sliced splashpages
Is it the way they load? I don't know... just don't like them.

i like it too - actaully with not too many colors i´d always gif a gif a try before saving as jpg

It would alot worse as a gif. The green areas are not solid shades of a color, they're almost like gradients, fading in several places from one shade of green to another.
gif's are not suited to that. They're suited to solid colors, very few colors, no photo-type images as well.

yeah mg, you're right about the gif's. allready tried that.
gives too messy colors.

and it will take longer because the browser has to check for each seperate image...

I think that the only reason you would need to use slices is if you wanted to have multiple clickable areas. I think you should leave it as one image and let it all load at once. I also like the splash image that you have there, good job.

Like it! the pixelfont might be on the small side though...

I like it very much. You don't need to change it
