The dynamic media capability of Flash MX sounds like it could be the most usefull new feature. Does it mean that i can specify a filename for a jpg using actionscript and pull it in at runtime (making generator largely redundant), or does it simply allow for a libary item with a set name to be replaced at runtime?
-
The latter question is answered using SharedLibraries, and your first question is answered with the new ability to load .jpg files with actionscript:
Code:
loadMovieNum("anyjpg.jgp",1)
movieclip.loadMovie("anyjpg.jpg")

Cheers for the speedy response. Thats great news. All i ever wanted generator to do was allow me to pull in an image at runtime, the name of which i specify using a script, but its such a pain to use. This is exactly what I've been hopeing for, fantastic news!

url?
So am correct in thinking that the anyjpeg.jpg could be something like http://www.mysite.com/anyjpeg.jpg
If so sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeettttt!

yes you are correct

What about dynamically loading jpegs from a text file or CGI? What do I have to do then?
-
Is it possible to also resize the movie to a perticular size, regardless of what the image size is? For example to make a thumbnail of a large picture dynamically.
-
Just thought I'd let you know that you can dynamically load scripted jpg's into flash 5, (without generator). these can be resized etc(although the res and file size stays the same) when you load them into a target movie clip.
Cheers.
P.s.
You have to use php to load the file into the swf.

can't use asp or coldfusion?

No,.......Well maybe!?
The open source of the swf allowed some boffin to wrap an swf coating around a baseline JPG. I could not have done this myself, however I seriously doubt that you could use anything else , you may be able to. Go to hotscripts.com and check it out.!
