Got this today:
Thank you for contacting Macromedia Customer Services.
Macromedia states that - "MX" means a new, tightly integrated family of products designed to enable the creation of more intuitive and responsive rich Internet content and applications. Macromedia Flash MX is the first product in this new family. I hope that helps.

So then the new version of Dreamweaver will be Dreamweaver MX. I think it kinda sounds cool. But what about the next versions after this family line? What shall the next dynasty of Macromedia products be called?

seriously, they did mention that Cold Fusion MX will be coming out in the late spring, so i imagine that all products designed to be integrated with the new flash will be labelled "MX".
personally, i think it's a continuation of macintosh's OSX, "let's call our new product 'X' thought" (windows XP anyone?).
but that;s just me.

The real question is why the new Flash Player 6 isn't the MX Player?
Maybe they didn't want to spill the beans on their new naming convention.

It's cause the version variable (property) in Flash is based on a number (For version checks ...)

If you read between those lines, then MX means Macromedia Xpanded.
How often do I have to say that? It's only logical.

The whole naming new product versions with a couple letters instead of numbers is a bit cheesy. I just hope the MX family doesn't turn out to be like the XP family.
