I hope everyone is aware of the new capabilities in Flash-MX and the Flash-6 player.

    Creating new vectors using ActionScript.
Loading raw MP3 and JPEG into the player at runtime.
    Sorenson Spark video encoding.
    Plus loads of other stuff..

Question.. does this make SWF generation less relevant ?
Sure, there will still be some niche applications that require getting down to the file format level - but for most things ActionScript alone might be enough.

How does everyone here feel about this ?
Are there any going to be any viable business models around SWF tools in the future ?

    Hi,

of course a lot of swf generation was mainly wrapping sounds and jpeg.
There will still be lots of applications where you can consider serverside generation of a self-contained movie; some reasons to do so might be speed (loading entire script with data sets vs. just loading a _relatively static_ movie), hiding your code, and ensuring the integrity of your data [Consider sending some data as a pie chart by email: pie.swf?labels=...,...,....&percents=....,....,... .&colors=...,...,... - of course it is easier to tamper with the data here than to make a new swf]
It will probably be the more sophisticated tools that still get a chance, but they were not used that much anyway.
