I am trying to make a 3d letter (G) spin 360 degrees, and I can't figure out how to do this in flash. So, i created it in swift 3d and works perfectly, except it adds 500kb to the file size, way too much! Does anyone know any alternative methods that wouldn't take forever to do?

    I appreciate all help, thanks

That would be easy to do, in Swish.

Gerbick has the key - use area shading, not mesh shading (or use one of the others - I am just partial to area shading). I just tried several Gs in different fonts. Typically the area shading swf file (if I rotated 360 degrees in about 20 frames) was 17-20 K, the typical mesh shading was 580-600 K. In all of these I changed the layout to 100 by 100, and rendered in the highest quality mesh that I could.

    Cheers,

    Flick

I don't know swift3d, but if you can...
rather than exporting as a swf, I think you should export your 3d letter G as an image sequence, in tga format, keeping your transparent background.
Do a batch conversion, with paint shop pro6+, to png files.
You can do your color reductions, and resize in this step.
Then import these images into flash/swish.
I like png files as they are a bit smaller, and there is hardly any image quality loss.
You can compress the image more, once you import them, one at a time, into flash.

I recommend unlead cool 3d for this, as it can export as tga image sequence. 30fps use 100 frames to turn it 360
Then, just use the even numbered images.
That's how I did the spinning cube, in My Website

That cube was only about 100k
Don't worry, it won't take forever.

    eag16,

    ...my bad
    I miss understood.
I thought he just wanted a 3d spin to a flat letter G.

well n-e-ways heres the link to the .fla file that i did so you can see how it was done. Also you can simply replace the "eag16" text with the "g". it should automaticly download if not then right click and save target as. **after download you need to change the .zip extension to .fla**
