Hey all,I'm playing with MX now, and it's awesome. I do have a question though. I'm trying a VERY basic load of a JPG image, and it doesn't seem to work for me.
I'm using: loadMovieNum('http://foo.com/somePic/jpg',1); to load an image into the movie. Now, this is only a 5K JPG that I'm loading, so it should pop right in.
Problem is that nothing happens at all - no pic, nothin!
Now, I suspect that since I have Flash 5 installed, there might be some conflicts, but I've got the version 6 player installed for all my browsers (IE 5, NS 4.78, NS 6).
Any ideas?
If you'd like to try it out, I've got a test movie loaded to http://www.nebulus.org/MISC/NebuVision.html and this is supposed to be loading an image from http://www.nebulus.org/nebuvision/nebucam.jpg every 10 seconds. Yup, you guessed it - an MX based web cam!
Anyway, take a look and let me know if you get an image in the movie. Or if you've got a successful image load, tell me what I'm doing wrong. Thanks!

MWahahahahahaaaaa! I've got it! Ok, here's a tip: DO NOT save your JPGs as a progressive JPG. There you go!

Take a look at the Dynamic Loaded Jpeg thread. Jpegs need to be 8 bit...

move around some!
cool cool! move a little so i can tell for sure it works, please

new toys are so fun, huh?

Yup, the new toys are deifnately cool! I'll be creating a complete MX version of my JS based web cam at http://www.nebulus.org/nebuvision this weekend. It'll be skinnable and load hte data with XML. Keep an eye out!
Rightnow it looks like the server's down, so if you can't connect, try a little later.

I searched through hundreds of forum posts, I looked through every book I could find, I searched on every flash mx web site in the entire cosmos.
I was about ready to go insane. I cannot beleive the hours I have wasted trying to do one simple thing....load a dynamic jpeg into flash mx. "Why does the test movie come up blank?", I ask myself.
I even watched the hour long Flash MX presentation by Bob Burgess. In that presentation is a demo of how to dynamically import jpegs into flash! Woo hoo! I thought, did it work??? nope.
I cried and cried, I even divorced the wife. I became a vagrant, wandering the streets muttering under my alocholic breath 'how do u load a jpeg *hic* into a friggin movie clip *hic* how...how..*hic*'
This sorry tale would never had happened if Macromedia had just mentioned the words "Oh by the way, the jpegs MUST NOT be progressive, because otherwise, they won't actually work".
I am a broken man.
