Here is an example of a file that is created only with script, mx actionscript there is. There are no graphical symbols are used in this movie. There are no lines, no shapes initially in this piece. Everything is generated out of code.

The file size is 4K !! (with a little sound)

You need flash 6 player in order to view it. Slow computers may suffer.

Blimey thats impressive ! Could you possibly reveal how you stored the images that are formed? I once had a utilty to convert a bitmap into ascci and imported that into flash to do something kind of similar. I'm guessing perhaps you did it that way.

    Here´s how it should work....

Get an Pict2Ascii app that converts your Bitmap to characters.......

Make sure it has the feature to retrict the final conversion to predefined characters of your choice....

Choose a number of characters you want the bitmap to be converted too....

convert an copy the result into a dynamic text field in flash.......

make a new object (small square)...

make the text fiel invisible or put its content in an array.....

with a loop, get every single character and set for like:
every "." a specific scale and alpha to a duplicated square.......and for any other characters as well ;)

define linelenght and linebreak for the grid you wish to place the squares in......

let the loop do its job.......voila......

but - im lazy to write the code........someone get it ;)!

Very impressive! I can see a lot of applications for this trick. For one thing, it kept me staring at the screen for a bit. Eyeballs watching a screen mean you've done a great job!
