    I was wondering what the best way was to achieve the 3d/vector shard effect seeon on a lot of websites these days, e.g designgraphik.com, submethod.com, etc.

    You need to get a 3d program like Swift 3D or SWiSH. FlashKit have forums for them.

    Swift 3D can turn vector images into 3D shapes.

    The trick is to use a vector editing program to draw your object to explode, and use that program to cut it into shards.

    You then export in a supported vector format (.ai or .eps).

    When you import to Swift 3D you can apply all the 3D effects to the parts, including individual spins and swipes - thus creating explosions.
