I am new to this socket stuff and am not sure if I entirely understand how it works. Does the socket server just pass xml around? Or can it be used to save an XML file to the server HD? Can it pass XML files to cgi scripts for processing? I am in the dark and am trying to do some research to find out this and the meaning of life...

    Uhh...

The XMLSocket object opens a persistent socket on the client machine. That socket can be used to transfer any kind of information, as long as it conforms to the standard of having the null-character (ASCII 0) as the EOL character.

You must have some kind of socket server running on the other end (server end). What ever functionality you build into that server will be what you can do with the XMLSocket.
