You know how annoying it is when the simplest thing that you've done 100 times before won't work? Well this is my problem.
Movie clip with a simple animation. It's a bird with wings up in first frame and down in the second. on 2nd frame the action is "go to and play fr 1."
3rd frame is a simple animation which shows the bird being blown to bits. there is a "stop" action on the last frame of the animation.
The body of the bird is a button with an action that says when the button is pressed go to and play frame 3.
Therefore you should be able to place the whole movie clip onto the main time line. The bird should flap happily away until it is clicked on and blown apart.
But nothing happens, it doesn't even flap its wings.
WHY????

Hi,
I would say that it plays the first frame. Goes to the second and looks at the actions (stage not yet updated), executes the 'gotoAndPlay' which jumps back to the first frame. So it never shows the second frame.
Just add a new third frame (moving explosion part to frame 4), not a keyframe, just a normal frame, and put your 'gotoAndPlay' action on that new frame.
(let's just hope the RSPCA doesn't get to hear about it )

OK guys,
I will settle this. Unfortunately i am not at home at the moment to try it out. When i'm back from work we shall see who the true master is.
I'm not sure what Oeldroop meant.....I definately put the animated bird MC on to th stage.
