wanting to get into 3D stuff. suggestions?

I think i've got flash down pretty well now, except for maybe some of the more extensive action script, but anyway....

I want to make the jump to 3D images now. I'm very fluent in 2D art and manipulation, but i know very little 3D....

I work on a mac,
what is the best program to start playing around with? Is it Swift 3D or something else?
is there a way i can do some basic stuff without buying a huge expensive program? A cheaper program maybe?

Any guidance is much appreciated!

well, if u want a vector oriented 3d proggie, u will probably end up playing with swift3d or Amorphium Pro. I guess u can get a demo @ theyr sites

I don't know what's the best out there (it's all suggestive) but I like Axel 'cause it's easy to mess with and it's aimed to be simple enough so anybody can use it.
It's still vector, not as images but more as geometries in space = weights way less.

+ it looks so sweet on OSX.

Well I don't think the plugin thing is that bad...if its power is worth it and the file size is small.

When you think of it, every technology has a plugin (or starts with a plugin before being embedded within an os, browser or else)...Shockwave is no different, just very popular

However, I remember they said at last Seybold that Axel was gonna be part of quicktime real soon so that has to be exciting (I know it is to me).
