How do they do this???

I would like to konw how people did this for thier globe's etc.

It is below, I created it my sig file.

are you talking about the fill on the sphere? make a circle. take a monochromatic fill using a radial gradient, then fill it where you want the lightest spot to be (assuming the lightest color in the gradient is the right most slider).
