new member is designing a simple site, but with the addition of a 52k background sound, the flash file seems to be choking on the animations.

http://www.jeremycwalker.com/jwalk/beta/indexMute.htm takes you to the original file without background "ambience".

http://www.jeremycwalker.com/jwalk/beta takes you to the same file with background "ambience". notice the drastic decrease in the quality of playback on this file. animations sporadically speed up and slow down. i tried swapping the 52k file for a 3k file, and the movie still choked.

also, when a user mutes the "ambience", all sounds except those embedded in the menu button symbols are muted, but i only want the background sounds muted.

any ideas or suggestions? if you care to peek at the .fla files: http://www.jeremycwalker.com/jwalk/beta/FLA.zip .

    thankyou for your time.

p.s. these aren't necessarily the sound effects i plan to use for the finished project.

yes, i am on a mac. since you asked, i'm assuming macs have been known to have problems with flash playback? it's a dual 450 mhz g4.

You know, I had the same problem once, where every site that had music/audio on it ran slowly... Ended up being either an IRQ conflict or bad audio drivers (can't remember), but I would check and make sure you don't have any resource conflicts, cause it seemed to run fine on my computer.
