Thread: Video Capture Card for Analog Videocam?

  1. #1
    Fellow Flixers,

I want to take my analog video camera home movies (Sony, RCA plug outputs -- I think that's called "composite" video signal?) and capture them digitally, so I can start working with Flix in Flash MX.

Can anyone recommend a good, cheap product for this? I have a good PC with a USB port.

    I found these:

    1. http://www.techdepot.com/product.asp...2163&adid=2163

    2. http://www.us.buy.com/retail/product...316071&loc=101

    any recommendations would be appreciated...

    Hi.
    From your Flix Help File:
"We use an Osprey capture card (http://www.viewcast.com) with audio and video inputs. Though the Osprey card costs less than many other cards, we have found the quality to be quite good. Additionally, we recommend using a capture card with both audio and video inputs to help keep the video and audio in sync."

    Work in XP?

    Thanks for the quick reply...

Will the Osprey-200 work in Windows XP - Home Edition?

Also, though it may be cheaper than other cards (some of these things are outrageously expensive!!), do you think it's better than this card, that's $85?

    Regards,

    Rick

I'm using XP professional and it works. I suggest you check out the viewcast site for more info (we have no relationship with them - this recommendation is based purely on personal experience).
Which card are you referring to for $85? (My gut tells me that $85 is too little to spend.)

The $85 card had no audio, which I'm glad you brought up. I do want audio....

This card is even cheaper: http://www.techdepot.com/product.asp...info=Tech#tabs

    Here's the Osprey-200 for $155: http://www.dvdirect.com/shop/product.asp?sku=VWC5004

    Thanks,
    Rick
